Luz Maria Velazquez – Technical assistance in gender issues
Luz María Sánchez Velázquez, graduated with an economics degree, holds a Masters in New Communication Technologies, and has a PhD in entrepreneurship and economic sciences (Cum Laude). She leads the Equality Committee at ITESM, and is an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Ethics Department at Campus Monterrey. She is member of Strengthening Women Leadership in Latin American HEIs and Society project, co-financed by the European Commission, ALFA III Programme.
She is a gender equality, divesity and flexibility advisor for private sector companies. She has written research papers presented at national and international conferences on issues related to gender, social responsibility, development of women, female networking and work and family policies.
Velazquez is passionate about women’s leadership; on that line, she has designed “Womentoring” programs for young professionals, students and entrepreneurs. More recently she has promoted grassroots initiatives that contribute to women’s empowerment, such as “Mujeres de Acero” project, which has reached more than 400 women.

MPL project functions:
- Conduct needs assessment of Mexican at-risk women and teenage girls to determine what financial skills they lack and what is needed to be independent.
- Provide technical advice to create a comprehensive curriculum in Spanish to teach women in Mexico, especially at- risk women, financial literacy and independence.
- Facilitators training on gender
- Cooperate in promoting strategic partnerships with institutions for implementing MPL project.
- Support MPL project in strategic online social networks
